The Environmental Education Center
"Creating a Promising Future for a Better Palestinian
Environment"
Beit Jala / Bethlehem
The Environmental Education Center
About the Organization: At the EEC's pristine hilltop location in Beit Jala’s rolling green countryside, it is easy to assume that one is in a country free from environmental problems. This statement is far from the truth, however; a widespread lack of environmental awareness among the Palestinian population has led to environmental degradation - pollution, loss of biodiversity, and loss of habitat for indigenous animals - and has created conditions that seriously jeopardize the future of Palestine's natural environment, and this way the center was established
The EEC believes that the answers to today's most pressing environmental and ecological issues can be found by bringing people together, raising awareness, mobilizing the public and empowering youth, women, and other marginalized groups. We strive to be a center that promotes positive change, encourages innovative development, and fosters transformative relationships in the fields of environmental protection and conservation.

Rozana organization "for rural development, architectural and handcraft preservation and rehabilitation"
The Rozana organization aims at developing an agro-cultural tourism product in Birzeit based on the architectural and cultural heritage of its old town, its history and its inherent resources, hence connecting stakeholders interest with a comprehensive production designed to improve its social, economic and cultural aspects.
Vision: To transform the old town of Birzeit into a vibrant, dynamic and living legacy by developing its architectural heritage and instilling life in its fabric of houses, attics, courtyards and streets, hence acquiring a permanent position for it on the heritage and rural tourism map of Palestine.
Goals:
- Advocating laws and regulations that will protect the remaining architectural heritage and fabric. This legal advocacy will also be associated with providing the stakeholders with the necessary contracts in the case of rental or investment contracts to do with their properties. This activity will also maintain the Rozana as professional and transparent as possible by administering the required registrations and finances.
- Administering a program of preventive maintenance that will preserve targeted buildings from further collapse and vandalism. This protective renovation aims to conserve the architectural heritage and to prepare the foundation for further investments and development. The nature of the preventive maintenance program is mostly external and does not interfere with functional activities.
- Creating functions and activities in each of the renovated buildings according to a preset (yet flexible) master plan aimed at instilling life in them and the neighbourhoods surrounding them. These functions will be distributed among the different buildings based on a variety of factors. The shape and design of the building normally dictate the potential usage to a large extent. The willingness of the owners and their readiness to offer their properties to public usage such as museums or centers. Some stakeholders might like to directly invest in their properties. They will be assisted financially and in kind according to their adherence to the spirit and details of the master pan.
- Organizing a set of events and festivals to attract guests to the town. In addition planning a series of marketing efforts to promote the different products and to assist in selling the local productions and activities.
- Creating a variety of spin off products that will assist in the promotion of the town's activities as well as serving the interests of the local community. Two proposed activities are: A. a boys and girls choir to rehearse daily at a specific preset time in the Latin Church. B. Opening agricultural routes that will serve the community as well as providing hiking, mountain biking and other recreational activities.
