Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Electric Power Systems

at
KTH School of Electrical Engineering in Sweden

KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. There are circa 12,000 full-year undergraduate students, 1,400 postgraduate students and 3,100 employees.

The School of Electrical Engineering conducts research and education on the highest international level in Electric Power Engineering, Fusion and Space Plasma Physics, Telecommunications, and Networks, Information and Control Systems (NICS).

The scientific and technical activities of the Division of Electric Power Systems cover development and application of methods for analysis, simulation, and control of electric and integrated energy systems. The research activities in this division are divided into three subject areas, namely, power system dynamics and control, electricity markets and production planning, and power system network planning.

Description

The primary objective of this position is to develop simulation models and control strategies for FACTS and HVDC-systems and to analyze their impact on power system dynamics and stability. The position also includes supervision of Master’s final degree projects and teaching.

The postdoctoral position is part of the research program “Controllable Power Systems” within the Competence Centre for Electric Power (EKC), where the Swedish power industry (such as ABB, Fortum, SvK and Vattenfall) is strongly involved. Thus, the candidate will be working in close contact with the power industry, particularly in order to develop and initiate new projects at Master’s and/or PhD level within the program.

The postdoctoral research fellow may also be given the responsibility of coordinating the research program “Controllable Power Systems,” subject to demonstrating good project management skills, interest, capacity to formulate research projects and to lead the strategic effort to develop the program.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a PhD in Electrical Engineering with a strong background in power system dynamic and stability, optimization, controls, and FACTS and HVDC-systems. Furthermore, excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.

We look for a highly motivated, proactive, and open-minded researcher able to prosper in a multicultural environment. Work experience (even prior to the Ph.D.) and project leadership capabilities can be an asset.

Employment

Form of employment: A one-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal.

Start date: According to agreement.
The salary follows the directions provided by KTH.

Application

Please include the following materials in your application:
A letter briefly describing your background and current research activities.
