Tasks and Duties: The FMRU Coordinator will be responsible for: - Developing the concept and orientations of the newly established FMRU, and in particular, setting forth the parameters and priorities of its documentation, research activities and academic program. - Defining the general comparative framework within which FMRU operates, and the specific cases it will pursue, based on geographical, historical and sociological criteria. - Selecting library materials by way of primary and secondary sources, adequate to the objectives of the Unit (historical, case-specific, comparative). - Maintaining scientific and administrative relations with selected Centers around the Middle East and throughout the world academy. - Directing the FMRU staff and distributing tasks to be accomplish. - Supervising the preparations for the major activities: (i.e. the workshop’s subject, the conferences, the releases in English and Arabic). - Acting as a focal point and a liaison for the academic centers, local and international organizations working at the same field, and ensures the sharing data and information with other centers. - Managing the whole work of the Unit and participating in organizing all important activities and high level contacts. - Ensuring the establishment of regular cooperation and mutual exchange of expertise, method approaches and joint activities with the other refugee centers. - Supervising the reporting system regularly to the IALIIS Director. - Designing and leading successful efforts to secure new funding for the unit including major funding initiatives. - Representing the Unit and its interests at the different levels. The Unit Coordinator, whenever Birzeit University's requirements for teaching at the Faculty of Graduate Studies are met, will also be responsible for teaching one course each semester at the Master Program in International Studies in the newly approved concentration in FMRS. In the evenings you help me to move into my electric adjustable bed. It is important that all the things I need are in the right place so that I can manage some things independently despite my disability: eating, painting pictures for my annual calenders, reading and answering emails, and preparing Arabic lessons at the computer. You will accompany me when I leave the house in my 'car', the electric wheelchair, in order to visit relatives, go shopping, see the physiotherapist or meet friends. During your stay you will sleep in my room, where I have a second bed because every once in a while I might need help in the night. My mother needs support with cooking and keeping the house. Thus, you will probably quickly learn many Arabic words. Many of my closer relatives often visit us and help. Therefore you don't always have to take care of everything alone. Sometimes I have two volunteers staying with me at the same time and you share the tasks. Volunteer profile • Female, motivated volunteer who has time for a few weeks or some months. • Experience with physically disabled people is an advantage but not required because none of the tasks are complicated. • Basic English knowledge, knowledge of Arabic is useful. • Open-minded and willing to learn a new language, respect the privacy of a family and the customs and traditions of a predominantly Muslim-Arab society. • Ability to be flexible in taking care and in supporting mostly during the days, rarely also in the nights.
